It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle and friend, Victor Dennis Stranger "Deno" with family by his side on February 23, 2026 at the Percy E. Moore Hospital at the age of 95 years. He was the last of Solomon and Annabella Stranger's 18 children to pass away.
Deno will be deeply missed. He is survived by his stepchildren, Jody/Jennifer Johnson, Tim/Gertrude Johnson, Brenda Johnson/Harvey Allen, Ed Johnson, Kimberly/Fabian Travers, Cheryl Thomson and Janice/Herb Flett; his grandchildren, Lilly-Anna and Leah, Nikki, Shyloh/Kyle, Shelby, Scott/Vanessa, Christopher, Lionel, Tony, Clayton, Tatum, Aries, Shaytonna, Danny-Mac, Memphis, Cory/Ana, Timothy (T J), Tonya/Benny, LeeAnn, Danielle, Virgil, Elliott/Raquel and Joshua/Claudette along with his many great-grandchildren and his numerous Stranger nieces, nephews and their families.
Deno was predeceased by his wife Irene; his parents, Solomon and Annabella; his sisters, Betty, Nellie May, Annabelle, Ollie, Jeanette and Katherine; his brothers, Leslie, Frank, Melvin, Roderick, Earl, David, Freeman, Jim, Ernest, Winston and Franklin.
Deno was a quiet, humble, gentle, patient, kind and caring man. He loved spending time outdoors, taking his dogs for their walks, canoeing on the river, playing golf, ice skating on the pond, working in his garden, family barbeques and gatherings in his home and beautiful yard, which he took great pride and joy. Each year you would find Deno planting his flowers and maintaining his yard.
Deno enjoyed watching his sports on T.V., when hockey and golf was on you could find him in the living room perched in his big comfy chair, cheering his team on and when he got quiet you knew he was having his 40 winks cat nap.
Deno had many stories he loved sharing. He often talked about the old homestead by the old stone church and the families move to the home now here in Peguis, a little about his Elkhorn residential experience and on some of the places he travelled as a young man. Deno had a wonderful sense of humour (saw you first) and loved joking and playing tricks on the grandkids and spending many hours playing games, lego, playdough, golf, dress-up and store, along with cooking. Deno always made his home the place where everyone loved to be visiting and spending time with Grandpa Deno, Uncle Dennis, Dad Deno. He truly will be missed.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Peguis Senior Centre, Percy E. Moore Hospital, Peguis Chief and Council, Deno's nephew Lawrence and wife Sherry, niece Liz and her daughter Jynx for being there near the end, the long hours/nights with him at the hospital along with all other family and friends who helped in anyway. We are thankful for your kindness, support and care.
Keeping with Deno’s wishes, a wake service will take place on Monday, March 2, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 with viewing beginning at 11:00 a.m. and the service following at 12:00 p.m. Both services will be held at the Peguis Church, with Pastor Wilfred Smith officiating. Then we will have our last lunch with Deno before travelling to the grave site at St. Peter’s Anglican Cemetery, where Deno will be buried alongside his wife Irene.
The Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews.
The Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, whom he did anything and everything for.
