It is with great sadness; we announce the passing of Stanley Ross.
Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend.
Stanley was born September 11,1933 in Grand Rapids; he was a father to 8 children, grandfather to 15, great grandfather to 61 and great-great grandfather to 11.
Stanley passed away peacefully with family by his side on January 26, 2026
He leaves to mourn his children, Albert (Pauline) Ross, Diane (Ken) Paynter, Grace ( Quincy) Thomas, Lillian (Steve) Martin, sister Jeanne McKay, special friends Colin Packo, Herman Turner, Andrew Pranteau, Harold Turner, Ken Cook ( Big bird ), Henry Cook ( Moses ), Peter Beardy, John Jack Ross, George Hudson, Don Pranteau, Lloyd Ferland, Kenneth Mercredie and Greg King; all his nieces and nephews. We would like to also acknowledge the Chartier family for being there in times of need; they were our forever neighbors.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Myrtle Ross; his parents, Albert & Jenne Ross and his children, Jeanne Ross, Clifford Ross, Marcel Ross, Allan Ross; his sisters, Sarah Dumas, Lillian Scribe; his grandsons, Vernon Allan Ross and Baby Ezekiel Martin and his in-laws, Norman & Catherine Chief also brothers and sisters in-law, Ben Cook, Maryanne & Ernie Ferland, Cecilia & Roy Sinclair, Colin McKay, Nelson Scribe, John George, Lillian & Henry Pranteau, Grace chief and his favorite cousin Maria Menow; aunties, Martha Menow, Mary Robertson and Charlotte Hudson; uncles, Angus Ross, David Ross, Thomas Grieves, Moses Grieves and George Grieves; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
In his younger days he enlisted in the Canadian armed forces, in which he stayed for 5 years and was stationed in Wainwright Alberta and Vancouver Island and numerous places in Canada. Due to a house fire in 1964, all his documents and uniform and pictures were all destroyed.
He was a commercial fisherman for over 65 years, and a carpenter for many years, he was still an active carpenter a few years ago, until his health started to deteriorate. He spent the last few years at the Rod McGillvary care home in The Pas, MB until his passing.
His 60th anniversary was a big milestone in his life with his wife Myrtle.
He was proud of all his grandchildren, graduating from high school, and loved all the kids.
He was an avid Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leaf's fan; he enjoyed watching them when they played.
We would like to thank everyone for the kind words of comfort, the nursing staff and care givers at Rod McGillvary Care home. Grand Rapids nursing station for their help with him in the past, Misipawistik Cree Nation and Anderson funeral home and his nephew Sidney Scribe for being there with him until the family arrived.
Wake services – Thursday February 5 and Friday February 6, 2026
both services beginning at 7:00 pm at the MCN Ininiwikamihk Cultural Center
Funeral Service – Viewing will begin at 11:00 am and church service will follow at St James Anglican Church.
