Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Believers Church, 465 Alexander, Winnipeg, Manitoba

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our son, dad, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend, Marcel on December 13, 2025 at the age of 42.

Marcel leaves to mourn his dad, Walter Johnston: his sons and daughters Marcel Jr.,Carmine, and Elise, his brother Joseph Johnston (Victoria), nephews Cael, Jesse (Amber) and niece Jessica (Cheyenne), his sister Elise Johnston (Devin), his nieces Jolena, Olivia, Ryan and and nephews Sean, Ivan and Karo; many other nephews and nieces, aunties, uncles: Melvin (Fran), Velma, Darlene (Johnny), and Jerry; elderly great uncle Allen Johnston, elderly great aunt Ida Johnston and cousins, friends.

Marcel was predeceased by his grandparents, Gordon Lapoint (2009), Joe (2009), and Lena (2012) Johnston: his mom Irene (2022); his step mom Diane(2023); his step brother Nathan (2023); his brother Clayton Johnston (2024); his nephew Joshua (2024); cousin Caleb Johnston (2025); uncles Allen Johnston, Gerald Johnston, and Wayne Michell; as well as numerous other relatives.

Marcel grew up in Gilbert Park, also known as jigtown. He lived with his grandparents Joe and Lena who raised him and his siblings Clayton and Elise. The great thing about jigtown is that marcels aunts, uncles and cousins all resided in the community where they all were raised together. They all share many memories there. Alongside living with his grandparents, Marcel liked living with his dad, and mom from time to time, but would always call jigtown home where a lot of his family still reside. He spent a great deal of time with each and every one of them throughout his life. Marcel enjoyed playing hockey, basketball and football with the friends from the community in the field of dreams. He also enjoyed art, especially painting.

Marcel was a very funny guy, with his own style of humor and distinct laugh. He was very caring and generous with everyone he came across. From the start him and his brother Clayton were always together laughing or doing what brothers do and they are now reunited to do that again.

Marcel loved his children and family. Marcel lived with his brother Joe and sister-in-law Vicky, he shared a special bond with them all, his nephew and niece Jesse and Jessica have many memories with Uncle Marcel. Him and his brother Clayton spent a lot of time living with brother Joe and Vicky- you can’t put into words all the special moments they have shared while living together in Little Black River- all the crazy things they got into, and all the laughs while together as brothers. Marcel loved his sister Elise and was always at her house. He shared a special bond with his baby sister and her children and was always willing to help however he can. They too share so many good memories. Marcel will be greatly missed by his family.

Special thank you to: the Doctors and Nurses at St. Boniface Hospital for giving him special care

Twenty-Third Psalm
The Lord is my shepherd:
I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
for His name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil:
for Thou art with me;
Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me
in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou anointest my head with oil;
My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life:
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep
By Mary Elizabeth Frye
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
