It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kurtis Neal Stagg-father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Kurtis is survived by his children, Cyssero, Deniro, Navarro, and Kurtis Stagg Jr.; (mother of the boys, Mindy Whitefish); father, Emery Stagg; brothers Robert and Tyler Stagg (Tyla); sister Terry Peebles; nieces Kendrah Stagg (Clifford), Ashley and Alyssa Peebles (Tatum Keewatin); grandmother Beatrice Peebles; aunties Charlotte, Charlene, Glenda, and Sharon Peebles, Myrtle Thompson (Stanley and family), and Mary Stagg (and family); uncles Gene, Carl, Albert and Arliss Peebles and Albert (and family), Norman, and Melvin Stagg (and family); special cousins Yvonne (Talese), Sissy Dawn (Montana), Brezdan, Emery Stagg Jr. and family, Rosanne Beardy and family, Errol (Ashley and family), Audie, Chasity (and family), Desi, Warren, Owen (Leah), Shawna (Mercedez, Blaze, Majik), Tharren, Christine, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Sheldon, Danny, Farine, Daisy, Jennifer, and Kevin; Albert (Skippy), Jason, Eddie, Devon, and friends in Winnipeg; and many more cousins, family, and friends too numerous to mention-we thank you all for being his friend.
Kurtis is predeceased by his mother, Cheryl; great granny Daisy; grandfathers John Stagg and Clifford Peebles; granny Mary Stagg; uncles Sam, Dan, and Alec John Stagg; aunties Edna Valen, Sandra Peebles, and Lorraine; cousins Joshua and Kerry Stagg, Sammy, Jason, and Vas Peebles; sister-in-law Margo Whitefish; brother-in-law Don Whitefish; best friends Brent and Jordan.
Kurtis grew up in Dauphin River and attended DR school. He later continued his education in Winnipeg at Tech Voe High School. He enjoyed playing sports and was an avid hockey player in his youth. He was a unique and creative person, who always formed his own opinions and had his own way of doing things. Everyone that knew him knew he loved playing cards and VLTs. Kurtis always had his ways of making ends meet on behalf of his family. He loved his family and his boys.
The flood of 2011 disrupted his family life in Dauphin River, and caused him and his family to be displaced for 14 years from his home in DR. This really affected him because he wanted to maintain a family lifestyle. Kurtis always enjoyed returning home to his community.
He also made many friends in the city over the years. Kurtis enjoyed being with his friends and cousins-laughing, joking, visiting, and having a good time. He was sociable and always had an easy time making friends.
In his younger years he loved wrestling. He wanted to be a wrestler. Kurtis also known as "Kurty B" also enjoyed making music and rapping, he even wrote rap songs in his younger years. But most notably, if he was sucking his pinky finger, he was really thinking hard over something or about someone. That was his trademark.
Kurtis' passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his boys and all who were fortunate enough the know him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
