It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Judith Gail Ledoux (nee: Ballantyne) on March 30th, 2026. Our dear Partner, Mom, Stepmom, Nanny/Kookum, Great-grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, Godmother, Teacher and Friend. Mom passed away suddenly while on vacation during spring break with her love Edward by her side.
Mom leaves to treasure her memory of her partner Edward Lander, her children Ryan (Tammy) Ault, Kevin (Kerri) Ault, Shanna Ledoux and Laurent-Meman Ledoux. Her grandchildren Shae-lyn, Geoffrey, Rylee, Joely, Brady, Braylee, Brynlee, Hayden, Brayden, Lacey-Leigh, Laurent Jr, Connor, Kevin Jr., Alexander, Kesler, Denae, Deanna, and Neal. Her great-grandchildren Abe and Thomas. Her stepchildren Vincent (Maureen), Natalie (Rob), Wanda Hengemuehl, Gayle (Earl), Fred (Rosie) and Margaret Ledoux. Sister Marilyn (Ivan) Hall, brothers Ronald (Yvonne) Ballantyne and Bernell (Cynthia) Ballantyne along with many numerous Step Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Godchildren, distant Relatives, Friends, Colleagues and Students.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Solomon and Bernadette Ballantyne, grandparents Alfred and Harriet Ballantyne, great grandparents Moise and Marie Lavallee, her brothers Brent (Butch) Ballantyne and Brian Ballantyne, niece Danielle Ballantyne, nephew Tyler Ballantyne, grandson Brazen Ledoux along with many other relatives.
Our mom will be remembered as a woman of remarkable warmth strength and grace, someone whose beauty shone not only outwardly but in the way she lived her life and cared for those around her, placing family at the center of her world. She was raised in Misipawistik (Grand Rapids) and Chemawawin(Old Post). She grew up on the land alongside her parents, grandparents and siblings, forming a deep connection to nature, community and tradition that stayed with her throughout her life. Those early years shaped her values of hard work, kindness and a deep respect for others which she carried into everything she did.
Mom dedicated her life to Education, believing in its power to shape futures and as a teacher she touched countless lives working in the communities of Chemawawin, Pukatawagan, Tadoule Lake, York landing and her hometown of Misipawistik. She was more than an educator, she was a mentor, a role model and a steady source of encouragement for her family, students and colleagues alike. While her work was important to her, nothing meant more than her family.
She was a proud and loving mother not only to her immediate children, but to all those that were around the family square. She found immense joy watching them grow, guiding them and sharing in their lives. Mom was always a welcome site when she arrived from whatever adventure she was currently on. Our mom also embraced her extended family fully, holding a special love for her stepchildren and their families. She welcomed all with open arms and a generous spirit creating bonds rooted in care, respect and genuine affection.
She had a love for travel and adventure, always eager to explore new places and create lasting memories. Some of her most cherished moments were spent closer to home like time spent at Gull Bay or family camp at Little Limestone. The last few summers were spent with whichever children and grandchildren were lucky to be around when Nanny and Papa Ed were on their way to St. Laurent to stay at their camper. No matter where it was, mom was surrounded by loved ones and the natural beauty she adored. She was also a Gospel singer for the Lord, and she loved attending church with her family.
Mom's life was one of love, dedication and quiet strength. She gave so much of herself to others and through her teaching, her legacy lives on in the many people she inspired and the family she so deeply loved.
