Dad/Shoomis left peacefully to the spirit world, with family by his side.
He leaves behind his wife Valerie of 57 years, and children; Geoff (Erynn), Tanya (Trevor), Deanna (Rick), Edwin Dean, special daughter in-law Sabrina, Tim (Emma), Edina, and daughter in-law Pam. Grandchildren; Aiyanna Shedeh, Kyle, River, Sage, Mia, Sky, Edwin Dominic, Derrian, Kendra, Shadow, Dennis Jr., Dennis B., Bobby-lynn, Brandy, Breanna, Katherine, Alex, Marcus, Yvonne, Sunshine, Zoe, Halo, Phoebe, Tylenna, Kashlyn, Kajon, Carl, Caitlin, Casey, Cody, Chloe, Tim Jr [Ning Ning], Brittany, Hayden, and Marlen.
Great-grandchildren; Bryson Dean, Killian, Nevaeh, Chayse, Kaynon, Kayanah, Kayde, Jayden, Kieran, Alex, Ryder, Kadence, Hannah, Melody, Eden, Kili, Kaydence, Kingston, Kinkaid, Koryanne, Carter, Jordan, Senaj, Saoirse, Elyse, Alaia, and Stefan. Siblings; Freda (Joe), Marlene (Kelvin), Linda (Franklin), Stephen (Cheryl), Emma (Clayton), Susan and Colleen. God child Valerie, along with numerous others.
Edwin was predeceased by his son Dennis, parents Edwin & Mary, & siblings Dennis, Lillian (Charles), Peggy (Ron), Randy, Kim, and Richard.
Upon the passing of Dad's parents, he and mom took on the responsibility of raising his younger siblings, Linda, Randy, Stephen, Emma, and Kimmy. He was a devoted family man/Dad/Shoomis/Grandpa who shared powerful bonds with his grandchildren, & special cousins Gloria, Margaret, David, Brian, Allan, Isaac, aunt Cecilia, & Uncle Jimmy.
A respected elder, he served the Lake Manitoba community in various roles, including farming, education, and council, later working as an Indigenous Cultural Advisor at Headingley Correctional Institution and providing consulting services & auto sales to First Nations communities.
Dad was passionate about hockey, baseball, hunting & music, playing guitar & singing. He coached, played sports & was a fan of the Winnipeg Jets & Toronto Blue Jays. Dad lived in allignment with Traditional Anishinaabe teachings. As a sacred pipe carrier, he had a deep spiritual connection to the land, nature, and all living beings, sharing these teachings with us throughout his life. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the memories he leaves behind, he will be forever missed and loved.

Wake services: Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2
Traditional funeral service: Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 1:00 PM
