David passed away peacefully at the age of 84. A quiet and humble man, David lived a simple life rooted in the land, the water, and the traditions he carried with him throughout his years.
David was a fisherman and trapper, spending much of his life outdoors where he felt most at peace. He was also known for digging Seneca root, a practice he carried out with patience and respect for the land. These were not just activities to him, but ways of life that reflected his deep connection to nature and the knowledge passed down through generations. He had a love for animals, especially cats.
A man of few words, David preferred solitude and reflection. He kept mostly to himself, yet those who knew him understood his steady presence and quiet strength. His best friend was, Oogimah (Robert Anderson), through many fishing seasons of his life. Also, Henry Traverse of Jackhead, another fellow fisherman.
In his later years, David resided at the Eriksdale Personal Care Home, where he spent the last few years of his life, cared for with compassion and dignity.
David was lovingly supported by his niece and neighbour, Val (Doug), and her children—Roanna (Randy), William Jr., Stephanie, Brent, Mishanna, and Twofeathers. They consistently looked after him, made sure he had groceries, and took him to St. Martin and Gypsumville when needed. Their care, kindness, and dedication allowed David to remain connected to his community and ensured he was never alone. A lot of other people in Fairford helped him as well. He did odd jobs for people on the reserve.
Though he lived quietly, David's life was rich in meaning. He will be remembered as a man who lived gently, worked honestly, and asked for little. His presence will be deeply missed by those who knew him, cared for him, and shared in the everyday moments of his life.
David will be remembered for his deep connection to the land, his quiet spirit, and the simple, steady way he walked through life. May he rest peacefully, reunited with the land and waters he loved so dearly.
David leaves to mourn, his children: David, Donna, Deanna (husband Greg), Dale Rose (Charlie); Grandchildren: Troy, Breanne, Michael, Karly, Kyle, Cody, Zachary and Lani; Great Grandchildren: Gavin, Bella, Ilexis, Kail, Brodi, Tatiana, Parker, Levi, Reese; siblings, Willie of Winnipeg, and Vinna of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
David was predeceased by his son, Danny; parents, Malcolm & Christina; his brother, Kenneth; as well as numerous other relatives.
Funeral Service:
Friday, January 9, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at the Anderson Family Funeral Home, Ashern, Manitoba
Light lunch will be served at the Funeral Home following the service.

St. Helen's Anglican Church Cemetery, Fairford, Manitoba
