It is with utmost sadness, at the age of 83 years young, we lost our dear, precious mother who entered this world on May 7, 1942 to the late Campbell and Edith Sutherland of Peguis, as one of the 15 children in her family.
Mom passed away at the Percy E. Moore Hospital suddenly, leaving her sisters Ethel Jean, Jaqueline Davis, Morgan and Andrew Sutherland.
Mother will be sadly missed by her children, Darlene (Glen), Greg (Melinda), George ( Pam), Earl, Carol and her baby son, Gerald.
KooKoo Nanny leaves behind her grandchildren, Ryan (April), Meagan (Fabian), Kaylon (Brittany), Louie, Luanne, Colten, Keith, Phoebe Anne, Candace, Chrissy, Ethan, Lucas, Chad, Lynden (Shantelle), Jannessa (Terry), Jennifer (Lyndon), Brendon, Carl Jr., Kylie, Brendon, Darcy, Leslie and Danielle. Mom had 40 great grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, Makari Sinclair.
Mother was predeceased by her twins Cynthia and Maureen in infancy; parents, Campbell and Ethel Sutherland; 10 brothers and sisters. Mother also lost her loving common-law husband, Frederick Cooke, whom she so loved and adored. Mom was also predeceased by her late husband, George Crate.
Mom was one of a kind, she was so generous where she would give her last $5 to whoever asked her for money. She was a bingo player and loved her slots, she would sit there all day playing a quarter, until she wasn’t able to walk anymore. She loved her sewing and knitting and she always did books and books of crossword puzzles. She had said ‘if I do puzzles, I won’t lose my marbles,’ and she would give a little laugh.
Mom also loved her big cup of tea and bannock. She would tease her son in-law, when Glen would go visit, saying ‘are you out of gas again?’ Mom just loved her gospel music, sometimes she would play her cd’s over and over till my brother hid one of her cd’s.
Most of all, she adored her grandchildren, great grandchild and great great grandchild and she had a special place in her heart for her granddaughter, Meagan, I guess because Meagan always took her nice meals to eat and called her on a daily basis to check on Mom.
Despite the many troubles she had with her health, Mom was always the best at hiding her pain. The last couple of months, Mom seemed very happy because her granddaughter Jenny, was coming from Arizona to have a family Christmas dinner, and she was patiently for her 3 grandsons who she really adored, but unfortunately her illness got the best of her and God wanted her home.
