It is with great sadness and with shattered hearts of the sudden passing of our beloved dad, papa and husband at the age of 62, on March 19th. Dad loved to travel and always wanted to be on the road. Sadly he took his last breath on the highway.
Our dad was united in marriage to the love of his life Bernice Starr on September 27, 1986. Together they were blessed with 10 children; Ardele, Arvel, Bundy, Kelly, Shawnda, Fiona, Yvette, Timo, Albertine, and Albert. Other children whom he loved and cared for as his own; Christina Quesk, Garth “Dude Ray”, Trayden, Noona, and Tye. Alongside 44 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. But dad always made sure our little ones called him “Papa” instead of choom or chapan.
Dad was a good provider for our family. He always made sure we had everything we needed in and around our house. He gave it his all throughout his whole lifetime. He held onto many job titles before his sickness got to him. Some of them were fisherman, guide, carpenter, foreman, trapper, and hunter. His latest job was when he became a band councillor. Dad was very dedicated to the work he performed.
In his early years he loved to play hockey and baseball. Then later became a coach and mentor for our local teams. He was well known and respected to many individuals in the surrounding communities. He enjoyed watching our family play sports. He was the greatest support and biggest fan of Easterville Cree baseball team. As they had to play their very best when he was around. He also loved to compete in local amateur singing such as his mom’s memorial and late cousin “Pinetch” singing competitions. His greatest hobby was playing Texas Hold Em. He would travel near or far whenever some of his pals would go to play. He’d tag along and ask his wife to take him.
As our dad would make his yearly visit to the Bluff road to see and be with “The Stevens Family” around the Christmas and New Year Holidays. Every other weekend they would go to Norway House to visit his daughters family. He was very proud to witness his first son in law be a good provider as to he was. He envied him every way possible and never forgot to let him know how blessed he was to have met his daughter. Dad would also ask his best friend, sister to tag along in the many road trips they had. Auntie Shirley “Manoose” never hesitated to do what was expected from him and always got it done right away.
Alvin is survived by his wife of 39 years, Bernice. Daughters; Ardele (Albert), Arvel (Derek), Kelly, Shawnda (Toma), Fiona, Yvette, Albertine (Brennan), Christina (Derek). Sons; Bundy, Timo (Lacey), Albert (Rosie), and Garth. He has too many grandchildren and chapans to mention. Brothers; Ronald, Leroy (Samantha), Sam (Mildred), Eli, Charlie Boy, Russell (Karen), Gary Chartier and Melvin George Sr. Sisters; Shirley, Rozina, Ethel (Jim), Pauline (Meech), and Della. Aunts; Dee Dee (John). Uncles; Roland and Colin Lavallee. In laws; Jane Lavallee, Michael Chartrand, Simon and Carol Patchinose, Louise and Harold Mckay, Mabel Cooper and sister-in-law, Susan (Choochan) .
Alvin was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Annette George, sisters; Eileen Lavallee, Sharon Cochrane, and Bertha Turner, Brothers; Franklin Lachose and Sandy Lavallee, Grandchildren; Bethany Starr, Darin Ross, Stephen Packo, Aunts; Rosalie George, Christina George, Grace Walker, Anna Captain and Dinah Lachose, his uncle Roderick George, in laws; Albert and Matilda Thomas, Fred and Ruby Thomas, Caroline Chartrand, Camilia Mercredi, Baptiste Buck (Cecilia) Florence Campbell, Hubert Buck, and Walker Buck. He was raised by the late Nancy and Joe Thomas-Rod and Rosalie George.
Wake Services: Thursday, March 26, 2026 at the Lavallee Home and on Friday, March 27, 2026 at the Ininewak Mamawi Centre, Easterville, Manitoba
Funeral Service: Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Ininewak Mamawi Centre, Easterville, Manitoba, with Rev. Stella Ledoux officiating.
Interment to follow at the St. Alban Anglican Church Cemetery.
